5 Hot Tub Water Conservation Tips

October 26, 2022

A hot tub is one of the best home features you can have due to its health advantages. Additionally, you can use this equipment when relaxing with your family or friends.

Despite all the advantages a hot tub offers, some homeowners are hesitant to install the systems due to water usage. Hot tubs require a lot of water and increase your water bill.

Understand ways you can use to conserve hot tub water.

1. Clean Your Filters Regularly

A water filter is essential in all hot tubs. This equipment removes dust, debris, dead insects, and leaves from the water, ensuring it remains clean.

With time, the dirt may clog your water filter, reducing its efficiency. As a result, your water can start becoming dirty quickly, forcing you to change the water regularly.

Changing your hot tub water too often leads to wastage. The best way to prevent this issue is by cleaning your filter after two or three weeks.

When cleaning your hot tub filter, sprinkle it with water using a hose to remove the dislodged dirt. You can also clean the filter with a filter cleaning solution. During the process, check whether the filter has any signs of damage and replace it if necessary.

2. Check for Leaks

Your hot tub may begin leaking when the cover shell cracks. Plumbing system issues may also cause leaks in your hot tub.

To know if your system has a leaking problem, check if the water level in your hot tub is rapidly decreasing without proper explanation. Also, check whether the area around your tub is constantly wet.

Once you notice your hot tub has a leaking problem, call a professional to identify the exact cause and repair it. If you ignore the problem, the gradual leaks can make the water level go below the recommended level, forcing you to add water in your hot tub regularly.

3. Cover Your Hot Tub

One of the major causes of hot tub water loss is evaporation. The best way to prevent water loss is by covering your hot tub with a quality tub cover when not in use. These covers have strong straps, long perimeter aprons, tight seals, and thick foam cores to ensure no water escapes. Besides preventing water loss, the hot tub cover also prevents water contamination.

You may also want to consider a thermal cover for covering your hot tub. This type of cover helps to prevent water loss while retaining heat in the hot tub increasing energy efficiency.

When choosing a hot tub cover, look at its quality. Also, buy a cover that properly fits the tub to ensure it doesn't leave space for the water to escape.

For the hot tub cover to serve you for a long time, take good care of it. If the cover becomes worn out, consider replacing it.

4. Aim Jets Deliberately

Your hot tub's jets play a major role in enhancing your spa experience. Modern hot tubs come with powerful motors to propel the jets and enhance your experience further. If the nozzles are not directed below the waterline, some water may spill out.

People usually don't take this issue seriously since they think spilled water cannot cause significant water loss, but that is not the case. As time goes by, the spillage may reduce the water level in your hot tub.

The best way to deal with this issue is to adjust the nozzles to aim straight ahead.
